PostgreSQL 8.01 on Mac OS X: I’ll have to give this installer a try. Building from source works fine on the Mac, but I’d certainly like to have something more Mac like.
WebDrive: Map WebDAV, FTP and SFTP as drive letters in Windows. Windows XP supports WebDAV, but seems kind of clunky sometimes. I’ll have to give this a try and see if it is any better.
BitKinex: Another WebDAV, FTP/SFTP client for Windows.

iPod Shuffle RAID: Practical, no. Neat to look, you bet. When I first saw the shuffle this is certainly crossed my mind.

JeremY! is right, the new Google Maps is going crush older map sites. After a few minutes of playing with this thing, I’m sold. Even though I use Safari as my primary browser, I’ll fire up FireFox (sorry, bad pun, I know) just to use this. Once you learn how to enter search terms to get the info you want, it really is quite easy. I was also glad to see that they provide a “Link To This Page” feature, since you can’t cut-n-paste from the location bar.
Unless something goes horribly wrong, I expect this to simply explode in usage. By the end of the week everyone and their cat will be talking about this.
UPDATE 10:00pm Tue 8 Feb 2005: Looks like they are working hard to support Safari. I’m looking forward being able to use it in my primary browser. (via Simon)
Create Your Own Custom API: Unfortunately this article could have also been called, Nathan Implements XML-RPC, Poorly. If you read this article and think that this is a neat idea, stop right there and go read up on XML-RPC. If you are using PHP then XML-RPC is very easy with The Incutio XML-RPC Library for PHP. Please, please don’t create another API.
NIST CD/DVD lifetime report: But will you be able to find hardware to use the media?
Samba Commander: A text SMB network browser.
WiFiMaps.com: Time for me to go war driving again.
Updated Simple CSS Tabs: Tab navigation, it’s neat-o.
Um, okay, this qualifies as a complete surprise to me. Bloglines is being purchased by Ask Jeeves? I saw this over on JeremY!’s site and thought it must be some sort of joke. I mean, does anyone still use Ask Jeeves? Of all the companies that I might have guessed would purchase Bloglines, Ask Jeeves was no where even close to my short list.
I hope that Mark is his getting money up front for this, in cash.
UPDATE 3:40pm 5 Feb 2005: Russ sums up my feelings about Bloglines. Please don’t mess up Bloglines.
UPDATE 10:50pm 7 Feb 2005: The acquisition has been confirmed. Here’s to hoping this only means good things for Bloglines.
UPDATE 11:00pm 7 Feb 2005: More info at Bloglines News, which points to the official Press Release and a Ask Jeeves/Bloglines FAQ.

On the 12th of December 2004 I registered a new domain name. Nothing special, just something some place that I intend to host a few projects on. I haven’t really done anything with it yet, but that didn’t seem to stop American Express from finding out about and making my domain an offer for a credit card. Yep, that’s right, one of my domains (not the person it registered to, the actual domain itself) has been offered an “American Express Business Gold Card-fee-Free for the first year”. I wasn’t sure what to make of it when I say a letter that was addressed to my domain name and not me.
I thought credit card companies were already doing fine gutting consumers and businesses with rates that would make Scrooge McDuck blush. Are they really so desperate for fresh blood that they are willing to send offers to domain names now?

I can’t believe that in 2005 more car dealerships haven’t figured out that having Internet access while waiting for your car to get serviced makes things so much easier (for me at least). I’m sitting here at Folsom Lake Toyota waiting for my 75,000 mile service and there is no Internet access. You’d think with Intel just up the road they would be looking to keep up with the times.
I’m not even looking for wireless, I’d be happy with just a live jack. Instead I’m here typing this offline. I sure hope this doesn’t take to long, because I’m obviously not getting much done while I’m sitting here.
I knew I should have brought a book instead.
I suppose this is why there is so much interest in being able to use phones like the new Treo 650 to share its data connection via bluetooth to a computer. As it stands, I brought my PowerBook with me in hopes of getting some work done while I was here and that isn’t going to happen.

Mac Mini: The Emperor’s New Computer: This has got to be the lamest Mac Mini review I’ve ever seen. The only reason I even mention is because it is so absurd it made me laugh.
