JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)

I’ve been thinking more and more about JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) lately. If you aren’t familiar with JSON here’s some reading:

Unless I see a serious counter argument, I’m ready to jump on the replace XML with JSON boat. Other proposed ideas based on JSON include JSONRequest (a safer version of XMLHttpRequest) and JSON-RPC (like XML-RPC without the XML).

This leads me to my next thought, should the existing feed formats (RSS & ATOM) be replaced with JSON? I’m not 100% sure that this is the right thing, but I’m giving it serious consideration.

LDS Sacramento Temple Dedicated

Almost 5 1/2 years after it was announced, the Sacramento Temple of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was dedicated today by President Gordon B. Hinckley. Joining President Hinckley was his counselor President Thomas S. Monson and Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (who used to live in Sacramento).

Sarah and I attended the first of four dedication sessions this morning at 9:00 am in the stake center next to the new temple. The Sacramento Temple is a beautiful structure, I hope to be posting pictures in the coming weeks.

UPDATE Tue 4 Sep 2006 @ 8:20 am : I’m told the final count for the number of visitors during the open house was 168,371, with 10,059 visiting on the final day.

CIA Recruitment Commercials

Earlier this week I saw a commercial on Discovery Channel for the CIA. They were trying to recruit people. Over the years I’ve come to accept recruitment commercials for various branches of the military. It was a little strange to see the CIA so openly advertising for new blood.

There are certain aspects of working for an organization like that CIA that would be fun. But the potential downsides seem massive. Would you be willing to go to work for the CIA?
