Summer Of Code 2005 FreeBSD Projects

The FreeBSD project was fortunate enough to have 20 students funded as part of Google’s Summer of Code 2005. There are some interesting ideas listed, here are some of the ones that caught my eye:

  • UFS Journalling- Softupdates are great, but journalling has been needed also (think long fsck times on big file systems)
  • SSH based networking filesystem- I’m not sure what the details are, but the name sounds interesting
  • nsswitch / caching daemon- nsswitch in FreeBSD was a life saver, anything to make it even better is a good
